Unfortunately things are going to be quiet in Charlottesville VA for a while, considering the fact UVA coach Pete Gillen has already shot for the max of recruits allowed. Regardles of whether 2001 signee Elton Brown detours to prep school next year to improve his test schore, it's likely that he'll take a scholarship one way or the other in 2002-03. That leaves Virginia with only one scholarship for the class of 2002-03. The Caves have a single objective, as they only have that alternative, at this point: to land an athletic wing player. Virginia can afford to wait most of the summer before offering any grants instead investing virtually all of its time into scouting. WFBF Curtis Sumpter, who maryland is also looking at, WI WF J.r. Morris, WG/WF Denham Brown, and others. |

Early commitment from como-guard?/Can you say Wahoo in University Hall?
Ever heard of the awesome combo-guard from Roanoke VA, JR Reynolds? Reynolds who made an impressive showing at camp this year, and throughout the summer in tournies, might just be saying "Wahoo" to UVA coach Pete Gillen quite soon, verbally to commit that is. It has been reported by a Roanoke paper that Cavs coach Pete Gillen, in hopes to woo JR before other powerhouse universities across the nation take charge, has offered the in-state standout and 03' combo-guard, an offer of a full scholarships in hopes he will commit early. "UVA has offered me an early scholarship already, thinking I might do something early." "The (Tarheels) were thinking they might do the same, but I think most colleges will wait til next year."
*note* I personally have a feeling, Pete Gillen was the only one in the race to make his move so early, whether it was a smart move will play out throughout the development of JR's remaining high school years. But either way it will help to show Reynolds that the Cavs are indeed interested and willing to fight for this in-state prospect. As for the Tarheels, knowing Coach Doherty I wouldn't think twice about that offer, Coach D doesn't like to rush into offering scholarships unless he's positive!
News Alert, Coach Pete Gillen, the longtime UVA Cavalier coach will be extended his stay in charlottesville for along time! He is negotiating a 9 million dollar , ten year contract now.(more on story later)
pro golfer and UVA alum Lewis Chitenegua dies of meingitis bacteria in edmondton alberta, he was twenty six.

The dog days of summer is probably the hardest time, by competive standards to latch onto top and any elite prospect on the basketball court. And more impressive is if you can find a key will fit perfectly into that match with word of a verbal commitment, saying to other coaches "lay off my player," until the November signing period. Well it seems like Skip Prosser and his Deacons team have had luck with that this summer. After winning awesome BF and C Eric Williams, along with Richard Joyce, the Deacs received a verbal from smooth 6'2 PG from Charlotte, Justin Gray today. Making it the fourth straight for Team Prosser in the last month. Consecutive weeks for that matter!
Justin, a native of West Charlotte attends Virginia's Oak Hill Academy, spend's his AAU time playing alongside Carolina recruit Rashaad Mccants in the Charlotte Royals team.
"Gray may not have quite the first step on playmaking skills to rank among the best lead guards, but he is always active on the court, and will improve! He is a valuable asset to the team!"
Well big news Wake Fans, it's your lucky day because 6'8 WF Rolesville, PF, gave Skip the conformation he's been looking for since he hit the Deac camp earlier this year. Williams said the main reason he chose wake was the small classroom size, and the fast paced playing Prosser wants to ignite. Williams who had an awesome showing at Nike Camp, last week, and dominated Minnesotas Rickert last Christmas, newly trim physique will make him have an instant impact for Wake. Playing quick with the ability to position his shots to a near perfect measure, dominating smaller and bigger opponents. Good job wake
Wow what a year it's been for the Deacon faithful the poor guys though happy for a change found out that tenyear coach Dave Odom was leaving them for the SC Gamecocks. Luckily Xavier's Skip Prosser as his staff were willing to take over and take charge of the program. Skip Prosser can't afford a year of "feeling out" the recruiting trail at Wake. Luckily recruiting wiz, for finding unknown talent dave odom, left skip with a few good recruits. WF Richard Joyce, and WF Trent Strickland. Trent could help to start Skips hopeful fast paced system. PG Justin Gray now lists Wake among his top three, he's the type of blue-chipper needed to copete w/ the conference elite, C Eric Williams, WG/PG Marshall Strickland, and WF Ricardo Billings are other hopeful recruits.
